Law firm Baker & McKenzie has signed a lease to co-anchor a planned skyscraper along the west bank of the Chicago River to be built by Hines Interests L.P.

Rendering of planned River Point tower. Baker & McKenzie has signed a lease for 300,000 square feet at the tower.
The giant Chicago-based law firm earlier this week agreed to lease 300,000 square feet over 12 floors in the new building at 444 W. Lake St., to be known as River Point.

Additional terms were not disclosed.

Baker, which has more than 600 employees in its Chicago office, is to move in early 2012 from the Prudential Plaza complex in the East Loop. The law firm is to join Chicago-based investment bank William Blair in the new 52-story tower, which was designed by Pickard Chilton Architects.

Hines is to begin construction by the end of this year. The lease means more than half of the 1.1-million-square-foot tower is taken. A local executive with Hines couldn’t be reached for comment.
