Grossinger Auto Group has begun interior construction of a new, four-level auto mall in the Clybourn corridor that is expected to open this spring. The facility at 1500 N. Dayton St. will be 410,463 square feet, making it the largest vertical auto dealership in the country, according to UGL Equis, which represented Grossinger in its search and lease negotiation.
Grossinger is moving its dealership at 1233 N. Wells St. to the new location, and received $8.5 million in tax increment financing from the city to help pay for the estimated $39-million project to renovate the former jukebox factory that has been vacant since 2005, when Home Depot Expo Design Center closed its store there. UGL Equis’ Todd Mintz represented Grossinger, while Mid-America Real Estate Group represented Home Depot, which is subleasing the space to Grossinger.
