Milan fashion house Piazza Sempione is joining the long list of high-end designers on Oak Street.
The 17-year-old Italian company has signed a lease to open its first Chicago store at 34 E. Oak St. next spring, replacing boutique Sugar Magnolia.
The store will feature Piazza’s understated styles and unique fabrics. It will be the third retail boutique in the U.S. and the sixth in the world for Piazza Sempione.
Upscale department stores such as Neiman Marcus Inc., Saks Inc., Bergdorf Goodman and Nordstrom Inc. have carried the high-priced designs by Piazza Sempione — ranging from a $1,195 cotton shift dress to an $895 scoop-neck blouse. On Oak Street, Piazza joins high-fashion boutiques such as Prada and Jil Sander and handbag designer Tod’s.
